CHD: Atrioventricular Block
Annie was always a happy child. She was diagnosed with an atrioventricular heart block, 1st degree, meaning her heart’s electrical system was not communicating all the way from the top to the bottom of her heart. By the time she turned 5 her heart went into a complete 3rd degree block. Her heart would stop for 2-4 seconds at a time while she was asleep, so in February of 2016 they sent us to MUSC in Charleston to have a pacemaker implanted in her abdomen to help her heart beat on a more regular basis. Two years ago we were told that her pacemaker is running a 100% of the bottom of her heart and currently staying that way. We are blessed to have great doctors, nurses and surgeons. Almost 4 years postoperative, Annie is 9 years old, in the 4th grade. She loves school and cherishes her family and friends. She is such a kind hearted child. We are grateful for our family, friends and most of all our heart family and the Emerson Rose Heart Foundation.
