Read about how brave Heart Warrior Mason has been since he was born!
“Mason is 12 years old and has HLHS and CHARGE Syndrome. He has had 3 Open Heart Surgeries and numerous other surgeries due to complications all completed at MUSC. His first surgery was at 5 days old, his second was at 8 months old, and his third was at 4 1/2 years old. Our family spent approximately 7 months at MUSC during Mason’s first year of life. Mason decided to show us how strong he was by only spending 6 days in the hospital after his Fontan surgery, when he was almost 5 years old!
Since then, Mason’s heart has remained stable, and at his last cardiology visit his Ejection Fraction was in the normal range. He continues to amaze everyone! We will begin going to the Fontan clinic at MUSC next year and have already completed some preliminary tests. Despite everything Mason has been through, he is one of the happiest and lovable little boys you could ever meet!
The ERHF® impacted my family with donations of meal tickets and gas cards. Jason and Susan, the Founders, are the most incredible people. They have continually prayed over Mason and our family throughout his HLHS Journey.
To other families going through the same things, hear this: though this is the scariest thing you can imagine for your child, there is still joy, happiness and hope in this journey. No matter the outcome, take one day at a time and soak in every moment with your child.”
