Emmett was diagnosed with Tricuspid Atresia, VSD, ASD, severe heart failure, eventually needed an LVAD and then a heart transplant. Emmett has had multiple extended stays at MUSC in Charleston. In March of 2023 we found out Emmy was in severe heart failure. He was placed on multiple medications to try and help his heart, and they worked for a while. In August of 2023, we were informed Emmett’s heart failure was too severe, and he needed to be inpatient at MUSC as Status 1A until he received a heart transplant. Emmett was inpatient for four months before he received his gift of life! On December 29th Emmett received his heart transplant and is making an amazing recovery! The doctors have said he is one of the best heart transplant outcomes they have ever seen. This journey has not been without struggles. Leading up to his heart transplant, Emmett was placed in the ICU four times in four months just due to not being able to hold his O2 levels, severe decline leading to the placement of the Berlin heart and finally listed for transplant.
The Emerson Rose Heart Foundation helped us every single time we have faced extended stays at MUSC. When we needed help in any way, they were there to help us through. Emmett has been at death’s door multiple times on this journey. The Lord has gotten him through every single hump on this journey. The Lord has been there at every decline in Emmett’s health and every great moment! He works miracles all the time and my son is one of them for sure!
